Despite the initial buzz surrounding its release, Salman Khan’s action entertainer Sikandar seems to be facing a gradual slowdown at the box office. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film has completed over three weeks in theaters, but its collection graph shows a steady decline. On its 22nd day, the film added a modest ₹13 lakh to its total domestic earnings, pushing its overall tally to ₹110.17 crore.
Released on March 30, Sikandar brought together Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna for the very first time on the big screen — a pairing that generated considerable excitement among fans prior to release. Salman steps into the role of Sanjay Rajkot, better known by his nickname “Sikandar,” while Rashmika portrays his supportive wife, Saisri Rajkot.
The story revolves around Sanjay’s transformation from a beloved, soft-spoken community leader into a man who finds himself in a dangerous battle against a corrupt politician and his entitled son. When personal tragedy strikes, Sikandar is forced to abandon his peaceful life and stand up against injustice, igniting a dramatic showdown between power and principle.
While the film’s opening week saw decent footfalls, its performance has paled in comparison to Salman Khan’s past blockbusters. Even though Sikandar comfortably crossed the ₹100 crore mark, it lags behind the collections of his previous action films and has not yet managed to match the staying power that fans have come to expect from a Salman-starrer.
Before the film’s release, Salman spoke about what drew him to the project during a promotional interview. “The story really spoke to me — it had a strong emotional core. The screenplay was gripping and full of the kind of action I love, but the real hook was how those emotions — the pain, humor, and personal struggle — were woven into the plot. I trusted Murugadoss sir’s vision, and I hope audiences feel the same connection,” Salman shared.
The ensemble cast of Sikandar also includes popular names like Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, and Prateik Babbar, all of whom play pivotal roles in this revenge-driven action saga. The film has been produced under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, with Sajid Nadiadwala backing the ambitious project.
While Sikandar might have made a promising start, the film’s current earnings reflect a clear slowdown in its box office momentum — a trend noted by both industry trackers and critics. Reviewer Saibal Chatterjee, in his critique for NDTV, rated the film 2 out of 5 stars, pointing out its formulaic storyline and heavy reliance on star power over substance.
With competition from newer releases and the summer holiday season bringing more choices for moviegoers, it remains to be seen if Sikandar will be able to hold its ground in the coming weeks, or if its theatrical run will taper off quietly after a respectable — but not record-breaking — century.
