Karisma Kapoor’s Children Accuse Stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapur of Forging Sunjay Kapur’s Will

A major family dispute has emerged following the death of businessman Sunjay Kapur, as his children from his first marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor — Samaira and Kiaan — have accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of forging their late father’s will.

The siblings have filed a petition before the Delhi High Court, claiming that the will, which surfaced weeks after Sunjay’s passing, is “fabricated, fraudulent, and deeply disrespectful” to their father’s memory.

According to court filings, the will in question, dated March 21, 2025, allegedly grants Priya Sachdev Kapur control over nearly all of Sunjay’s personal estate. Samaira and Kiaan’s legal representatives argue that the document is riddled with inconsistencies — including misspelled names, incorrect addresses, and factual inaccuracies — suggesting that it could not have been prepared by Sunjay himself.

They further claim that digital records show the will was edited and modified from computers associated with Priya’s office staff, not by Sunjay. The petition describes these findings as “clear indicators of digital fabrication.”

Their lawyer, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, told the court that the will appears to have been created with “the intent to sideline legitimate heirs” and benefits only one person — Priya Sachdev Kapur. He also remarked that the document’s language and formatting do not reflect Sunjay’s usual professionalism or tone.

In their petition, Samaira and Kiaan stated that the document “demeans” their father’s reputation and presents him as careless and biased, which they believe is untrue. “Our father was a meticulous man — he would never produce a will so poorly written or legally careless,” their affidavit reads.

They have requested the court to declare the will invalid, to initiate a forensic audit of the digital files related to it, and to temporarily freeze Sunjay Kapur’s assets until the authenticity of the will is verified.

Priya Sachdev Kapur, through her legal team, has rejected all accusations of forgery. Her representatives claim the will is authentic and reflects Sunjay Kapur’s final wishes. They have further argued that Karisma Kapoor’s children already hold a substantial inheritance through family trusts established during Sunjay’s lifetime.

According to reports, Priya’s lawyers have also accused Karisma and her children of attempting to “malign” Priya’s image and create public pressure before the legal process concludes.

The Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of the case and directed Priya Sachdev Kapur to submit a sealed list of assets belonging to Sunjay Kapur’s estate. The court has also asked for digital verification of the will’s creation and modification dates.

The next hearing will determine whether the will can be considered legally valid or whether a criminal investigation into alleged forgery should be launched.

Sunjay Kapur, a prominent industrialist and chairman of the Sona Group, married Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple divorced in 2016 after a highly publicized separation, during which Karisma received custody of their two children.

Sunjay later married entrepreneur Priya Sachdev in 2017. The two shared a son and lived between Delhi and London. Following Sunjay’s death in June 2025, reports estimated his estate to be worth over ₹30,000 crore, making this one of the most high-profile inheritance disputes in recent years.

As the legal battle continues, the case raises critical questions about digital wills, stepfamily inheritance rights, and the use of technology in estate planning.

For now, Samaira and Kiaan stand firm on their claim that their father’s will was forged — and that only one person could have orchestrated it. The court’s verdict in the coming months will likely determine not just the fate of Sunjay Kapur’s vast estate, but also set a precedent for future inheritance disputes in India’s elite circles.
