Exclusive: Raashii Khanna Reflects on 11 Years in Cinema — “It’s Been a Journey of Grit, Growth, and Self-Belief”

Marking over a decade in the spotlight, actress Raashii Khanna is celebrating 11 remarkable years in the Indian film industry — a journey that, by her own admission, hasn’t always been smooth but has certainly been fulfilling. With no godfather in the business and no influential surname to fall back on, Raashii carved a space for herself purely through hard work, versatility, and a relentless drive to grow.

In an exclusive conversation, Raashii opened up about the highs, the lows, and everything in between. “When you come into this industry without powerful backing, you’re often told that your chances are slim. I heard that a lot. But somewhere within me, I knew I had a voice, a presence, and a hunger to prove myself. That has been my fuel from day one,” she shared.

Raashii, who began her acting career in 2014 with the Hindi film Madras Cafe, transitioned to the South Indian film industry shortly after — where she found both popularity and creative satisfaction. With hits across Tamil and Telugu cinema, she quickly rose to prominence, working alongside top stars and earning a reputation for her emotive performances and strong screen presence.

“It wasn’t easy,” she says. “I’ve faced rejections, been typecast, and even doubted myself on days when nothing seemed to be going my way. But what kept me going was the audience’s love and my own commitment to keep learning and evolving.”

In her 11-year journey, Raashii has taken on an impressive range of roles — from light-hearted romantic leads to intense, emotionally layered characters. She’s been praised for her performances in films like Tholi Prema, Prati Roju Pandage, and more recently, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, where she starred opposite Ajay Devgn in her OTT debut.

The transition to digital platforms has been another significant chapter in her career. “OTT gave me an opportunity to show a different side of myself as a performer,” she explained. “It’s not about glamour there — it’s about grit, substance, and realism. That challenged me in a whole new way.”

Reflecting on her early years, Raashii admits that there was pressure to conform — to fit into a certain beauty mold, to play safe. “Initially, you try to fit in because you think that’s what works. But over the years, I’ve realized the power of being authentic. The more real I became — on screen and off — the more connected I felt with my work and my audience.”

Despite not having the privilege of powerful connections in the industry, Raashii believes that times are slowly changing. “We’re now seeing a more inclusive industry, where talent is beginning to get its due, regardless of background. There’s still a long way to go, but I’m hopeful.”

Looking ahead, Raashii is excited about a slew of upcoming projects spanning languages and platforms. “As an actor, I never want to stop experimenting. Whether it’s a strong female-led story or a character with shades of grey — I want to explore it all. The only thing I demand of myself now is honesty in performance.”

She signs off with a message to all aspiring actors who may not have the cushion of big names or backing: “Don’t let that stop you. It’s a harder road, no doubt — but it’s also one where every milestone means more, because you earned it. Brick by brick.”

From being a newcomer with no formal training to becoming a pan-Indian face recognized for both her craft and candor, Raashii Khanna’s 11-year journey is proof that persistence, talent, and authenticity can take you a long way — even in an industry as unpredictable as cinema.
