Cine Workers Association Appeals to PM Modi: Seeks Ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s Concerts, Demands Suspension of His Social Media Accounts Amid Controversy

Amid rising tensions surrounding the ongoing controversy involving Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, a prominent cine workers’ organization has formally reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate action against the actor-singer. The group has called for a nationwide ban on his public performances and concerts, and has further demanded the suspension of all his active social media accounts, citing concerns over national sentiment and his alleged insensitivity toward ongoing geopolitical issues.

In an official letter addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office, the organization expressed deep disappointment over Dosanjh’s recent actions, particularly his association with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. The association claims that such collaborations are not only tone-deaf given the current political climate but also disrespectful to the sacrifices of Indian armed forces, especially in the aftermath of events like the Pulwama and Uri attacks.

The statement from the cine workers’ body reads:
“At a time when national emotions are still raw over decades of cross-border tension, it is absolutely unacceptable for any Indian artist — no matter how popular — to glorify or collaborate with talent from across the border. Such acts indirectly normalize relations with a state that continues to sponsor terror against our nation.”

The letter goes on to demand that Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert tours across India be cancelled immediately, warning that allowing these events to proceed could lead to mass boycotts, protests, and unrest within the fraternity and the general public. The organization also requested intervention from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to evaluate the potential impact of Dosanjh’s continued online presence, claiming that his posts “carry significant influence among young fans and can send a misleading message during a time of national sensitivity.”

According to sources within the organization, this isn’t the first time concerns have been raised about artists maintaining ties with figures from across the border. However, the widespread popularity of Diljit Dosanjh, both domestically and internationally, makes this case particularly high-profile and contentious.

“We are not against art,” the body clarified. “But we are against irresponsible art that disregards the pulse of the nation. Artists must not be above accountability. When you represent India globally, you carry a responsibility. You cannot wear the tricolor on one hand and shake hands with those who represent nations hostile to us on the other.”

Reactions on social media have been divided. While a portion of netizens echoed the cine body’s sentiments and trended hashtags like #BanDiljitConcerts and #BoycottSardaarJi3, another wave of fans and fellow artists have come forward in support of Dosanjh, calling the backlash “unwarranted” and “politically charged.”

A senior industry insider, speaking on the condition of anonymity, commented,
“This opens up a complicated debate about the intersection of politics and entertainment. While nationalism is important, are we now going to police every creative decision based on diplomatic tensions? Where do we draw the line between patriotism and censorship?”

So far, Diljit Dosanjh has not issued any new public statement in response to the letter, though he has previously maintained that Sardaar Ji 3 is a work of art, and that cinema should not be used as a political tool. He has also often advocated for peace and harmony through his music and public appearances.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are now on the government’s next move. Whether the Prime Minister’s Office will respond to the appeal or direct any action against the star remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the entertainment industry finds itself once again at the heart of a larger national conversation — one that questions the responsibility, reach, and repercussions of celebrity influence in a deeply divided political landscape.
