Ever since his surprise appearance alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in the 2021 multiverse epic Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans across the globe have been buzzing with one pressing question — will Andrew Garfield don the Spider-Man suit once more?
The Amazing Spider-Man actor, whose portrayal of Peter Parker brought a sensitive, awkward charm to the web-slinger back in 2012 and 2014, has finally addressed the speculation in a recent conversation, and while his answer is honest, it also leaves room for some exciting possibilities.
Speaking about the potential of swinging back into the Marvel universe, Garfield admitted that he’s open to the idea, but it wouldn’t be just any straightforward sequel that would draw him back in. “It would have to be something very unexpected, very out-of-the-box,” he explained. “If there was ever another opportunity to explore that world again, it couldn’t just be more of the same. It would have to be something weird, playful, and deeply meaningful.”
Garfield’s take is refreshingly thoughtful — especially for someone who knows both the triumphs and pressures of the superhero spotlight. After starring in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Garfield’s version of Peter Parker was met with both love and criticism, as Sony’s plans for a broader Spider-Verse stumbled before Marvel’s current multiverse explosion.
But with the roaring success of No Way Home, where Garfield’s Peter got a chance to redeem his character arc in a touching, crowd-cheering moment involving Zendaya’s MJ, fans have rekindled their hopes that his Spidey story might not be over after all.
Garfield acknowledged the special place Spider-Man holds in his heart. “I feel very protective over Peter. And I’m incredibly grateful I got to revisit him the way I did in No Way Home. It gave me closure and also opened a new door. But the only way I’d return again is if it pushes boundaries. If it’s something audiences wouldn’t expect.”
Known for his selective and emotionally driven choices as an actor, Garfield has spent recent years shifting between thought-provoking indie projects and large-scale films, earning accolades for performances in movies like Tick, Tick… Boom! and Under the Banner of Heaven. So it’s no surprise he wants any future Spider-Man chapter to align with both artistic creativity and heartfelt storytelling.
Marvel fans, meanwhile, have been eager to see more of his Spider-Man, with social media campaigns and fan art imagining what an Amazing Spider-Man 3 could look like. Whether Sony or Marvel Studios will answer those calls remains a mystery, but Garfield’s openness to returning — under the right circumstances — has certainly given fans new hope.
For now, the actor seems content to enjoy his diverse film career, but one thing’s clear: the Spider-Man suit still fits, and if the right script comes along, Garfield just might swing back into action.
