After the underwhelming box office performance of Laal Singh Chaddha back in 2022, Bollywood’s “Mr. Perfectionist” Aamir Khan chose to step away from the spotlight, taking an intentional hiatus from acting. Though absent from cinema screens, the actor has still managed to make headlines for several personal and professional updates that have kept his name trending.
During this break from films, Aamir turned his attention toward family and upcoming projects. One of the biggest reasons fans have seen his name circulating online lately is his vocal support for his son Junaid Khan, who is preparing for his much-anticipated Bollywood debut in the film Loveyapa. Speaking during a virtual interaction with members of his loyal fanbase in China, Aamir shared new details about the project, including its status and his unusual role this time around. “Sitaare Zameen Par is almost complete and will soon be ready for audiences. It is, in many ways, a thematic follow-up to Taare Zameen Par, but the tone and treatment are much more lighthearted. While the first film was emotionally heavy and designed to evoke tears, this one is more playful — it will make audiences laugh while still delivering an important message about inclusion, love, and self-discovery,” Aamir explained.
The actor, who portrayed the compassionate teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh in Taare Zameen Par, revealed that his new character in the sequel couldn’t be more different from the role that audiences fondly remember. He disclosed, “This time I’m playing a man named Gulshan. Unlike Nikumbh, who was empathetic and patient, Gulshan is rough around the edges. He’s brash, insensitive, and openly rude to the people around him. He constantly finds himself at odds with everyone, including his own family. He even gets into fights with his wife, clashes with his mother, and isn’t afraid to take on authority — there’s even a moment where he physically confronts his senior coach.”
Aamir also mentioned that Gulshan, much like many of the characters in the film, struggles with personal demons and emotional baggage. The film’s narrative, he said, will explore how this flawed man embarks on a journey of transformation, learning about kindness, humility, and humanity from a group of differently-abled individuals who cross his path.
Joining Aamir in this heartfelt yet humorous story will be Darsheel Safary, the child star of the original film, making his return to the franchise, and actress Genelia Deshmukh, who has reportedly been cast in a significant role. The film is being directed by RS Prasanna, known for his sharp storytelling and knack for blending emotion with entertainment.
Although the production house has not locked a release date yet, fans are already buzzing with anticipation, flooding social media with messages of excitement and hope.
