Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Box Office Collection Day 3: Harshvardhan Rane’s Romantic Drama Crosses ₹20 Crore, Holds Strong Against Thamma

The romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa and released during the Diwali window, has delivered a commendable box-office performance in its first three days. Despite softer marketing and a considerably smaller release footprint compared to its festive competitor, the film has managed to cross the ₹20 crore net mark in India.

Here’s how the film’s early run breaks down:

  • Day 1 (Tuesday): The film opened to around ₹9 crore net.

  • Day 2 (Wednesday): It earned approximately ₹7.75 crore, marking a drop of around 14 % from day 1.

  • Day 3 (Thursday): The film added another ₹6 crore, taking the three-day cumulative to roughly ₹22.75 crore (as per one trade tracker) or about ₹23 crore in other estimates.

This performance is especially noteworthy considering the film’s modest budget (reported around ₹25 crore) and the fact that it released on fewer screens than many big-budget Diwali films.

How does it compare to Thamma?

The horror-comedy Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, opened big and has collected significantly more in its first couple of days. On Day 1, Thamma reportedly earned around ₹24-25 crore net. Day 2 saw around ₹18-19 crore (some reports slightly vary) taking its two-day total to around ₹44-45 crore net. Early estimates for Day 3 have pegged it at another ~₹12.5 crore, bringing the three-day net in the region of ₹42.6 crore.

Given these figures, although Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has done well for itself and surpassed the ₹20 crore threshold, it has not overtaken Thamma in terms of total box-office collections so far. Thamma continues to maintain a clear lead. For instance, one trade analysis pointed this out:

“Even as Thamma collected more money on account of having a wider release, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has maintained a better hold over the weekdays.”

So, while Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is the surprise — punching above its weight with fewer screens — the bigger release, Thamma, remains ahead in the numbers game.

Outlook & what to watch

  • The key for Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat now will be whether it can show an uptick during the weekend (Saturday-Sunday) and perhaps reach the ~₹40-50 crore net mark by the end of its first week. Some sources suggest crossing ₹50 crore would be a major win for its budget.

  • For Thamma, maintaining momentum and preventing a steep drop in the coming weekdays will be essential if it wants to convert its strong opening into a big overall haul.

  • Given they released in the same festive window, the relative screen counts, regional performance, and word-of-mouth will be decisive factors. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has fewer screens yet is holding reasonably well; while Thamma has broader reach but must sustain to justify its larger scale.

In summary:
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat crossing the ₹20 crore mark in three days is a positive sign — especially for a smaller film — but in the context of its Diwali rival Thamma, it has not overtaken it. Thamma remains commercially ahead at this stage.
