The sudden demise of renowned singer and music icon Zubeen Garg has left fans across Assam and beyond in a state of shock and mourning. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that, as per the death certificate issued by the hospital authorities, the legendary musician passed away due to drowning.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister expressed his grief over the loss and assured that the government is in constant touch with Zubeen’s family. He added that the authorities had sought clarification regarding the cause of death, and the medical report clearly mentioned drowning as the reason. “We received the official death certificate, and it has identified drowning as the cause. It is an irreparable loss for Assam, for the Assamese language, and for Indian music as a whole,” Sarma said.
Zubeen Garg, often called the “uncrowned king of Assamese music,” enjoyed a massive fan following not just in the North-East but also among music lovers across the country. Known for his soulful voice, versatility, and ability to blend traditional Assamese music with contemporary styles, he carved a special place in the hearts of millions.
