The Ganesh Chaturthi holiday did give a slight push to its overall business, but the momentum is nowhere close to what it witnessed during the first few days.
The film, which released to massive fanfare, had set the box office on fire with its high-octane action, whistle-worthy dialogues, and Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life presence. Within its first week, Coolie crossed several milestones and emerged as one of the biggest openers of the year in South Indian cinema. However, as the days passed, the collections gradually started to even out, especially after entering its second week.
Industry trackers point out that while ₹3 crore may not be a huge figure compared to its earlier collections, it is still a respectable number for a weekday run. The film has now amassed a solid total domestically and continues to perform reasonably well in select regions, particularly Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka, where Rajinikanth enjoys an unmatched fan following. Overseas too, the movie has registered stable business, adding to its worldwide tally.
Trade analysts believe that the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities brought families to the theatres, giving Coolie an advantage on Tuesday. Yet, with new releases lined up this weekend, the film may soon face stiff competition. Much will depend on how strongly it holds during the upcoming weekend to sustain its place at the ticket counters.
