Adnan Sami Reflects on His Life-Altering Decision to Leave Behind Wealth in Pakistan and Embrace India: “I Had the Option to Be a Citizen of Several Countries, But I Chose This Land”

Renowned singer and music composer Adnan Sami, known for his soulful voice and heartfelt melodies, recently opened up about one of the most significant decisions of his life—leaving his affluent lifestyle and vast assets in Pakistan to start anew in India. In a heartfelt revelation, Sami disclosed that he walked away from property and wealth worth crores when he chose to settle in India, a country he says he always felt a deep emotional connection with.

Adnan Sami, who was born in London to Pakistani parents, enjoyed a successful career in Pakistan before finding immense popularity in India with chart-topping hits like Lift Karade, Kabhi Toh Nazar Milao, and Tera Chehra. Despite having the option to settle in numerous other countries where he held eligibility—including the UK, Germany, Canada, and the United States—Sami explained that his heart was always drawn to India.

“I had opportunities to become a citizen of several countries. I was born in Britain and lived across the globe. If it were about luxury or comfort, I could have chosen Germany, the UK, the US, or even Canada,” he said. “But I didn’t. I chose India—because this is where my soul found its home.”

What makes his decision even more striking is the fact that he didn’t just move countries—he gave up a life of luxury in the process. Sami revealed that he left behind substantial assets in Pakistan, including expensive properties and financial investments. According to him, none of that mattered in comparison to the spiritual and emotional fulfillment he experienced upon making India his permanent home.

“My decision wasn’t driven by wealth. I left behind assets worth crores. But what I gained here is priceless. It wasn’t a financial decision—it was a calling. I felt a connection to this country, to its people, to its culture. That was something no amount of money could ever replace,” he shared during the interview.

Over the years, Adnan Sami has become a proud Indian citizen and a vocal admirer of Indian heritage and democracy. He officially became a naturalized citizen of India in 2016, and since then, has not only continued to contribute to the country’s musical landscape but also regularly expresses his deep appreciation for India’s values, diversity, and freedom.

Sami has also faced criticism from certain quarters for renouncing his Pakistani roots, but he has consistently maintained that his decision was purely personal and rooted in genuine admiration for India. “People are entitled to their opinions, but I know where my heart belongs,” he stated. “India welcomed me with open arms. It didn’t just give me a passport—it gave me a sense of belonging.”

His journey, however, hasn’t been without hurdles. There were bureaucratic challenges, scrutiny over his citizenship status, and even backlash on social media. But through it all, Adnan Sami has remained unwavering in his belief that choosing India was one of the most fulfilling decisions of his life.

“Sometimes in life, you must follow what your heart tells you—even if it means leaving comfort behind,” he concluded. “India gave me a new identity—not just on paper, but in spirit. That’s something I will always be grateful for.”

Now an integral part of India’s music industry, Sami continues to work on new projects, mentor emerging talent, and serve as a symbol of cross-border transformation through art. His story stands as a testament to how home is not just where one is born, but where one truly feels at peace.
