Meera Chopra Criticizes Diljit Dosanjh for Casting Pakistani Actress Hania Aamir in ‘Sardaar Ji 3’: “Shows Lack of Respect for the Nation”

In a recent controversy that has stirred significant discussion across social media platforms, actress Meera Chopra has taken a firm stand against the casting choices made in the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. The cousin of global star Priyanka Chopra, Meera expressed her strong disapproval of actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s decision to cast Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the lead role.

Meera didn’t mince words as she voiced her opinion, stating that such casting decisions reflect a troubling disregard for national sentiment. “At a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are still sensitive, it’s extremely disheartening to see actors from our own country overlooking these realities just to bring in foreign talent—especially from across the border. These people can’t even respect their own country,” she remarked.

Her comment appears to be a direct criticism of Dosanjh, who enjoys immense popularity not only in India but globally. The decision to feature Hania Aamir—an acclaimed Pakistani actress known for her roles in various Urdu dramas—has received mixed reactions from audiences. While some argue that art should be free of boundaries, others stand by Meera’s sentiment, believing that national identity and public sentiment should not be ignored in pursuit of box office success.

Meera Chopra further stressed that the Indian film industry is brimming with immensely talented actresses who are often overlooked for roles that end up being offered to international names for the sake of buzz. “What message are we sending to aspiring Indian actresses when we offer such big-budget roles to someone who isn’t even from this country? Isn’t that a slap in the face to our own talent pool?” she questioned.

Although Sardaar Ji 3 has been generating significant buzz due to its high-profile cast and production value, this controversy has now overshadowed much of the excitement. Meera’s comments have resonated with a large section of the public, many of whom believe that patriotism must not take a backseat in the name of entertainment.

This isn’t the first time Bollywood or regional cinema has come under scrutiny for its association with Pakistani artists. In the past, several celebrities have faced backlash for collaborating with talent from Pakistan, especially after periods of heightened political tension. Despite unofficial bans and public outrage, such collaborations continue to occur, igniting debates about where the line between art and nationalism should be drawn.

Meera concluded her statement by urging filmmakers and actors to be more mindful of their choices and the larger impact they may have. “We are part of an industry that influences millions. It is our responsibility to reflect the ethos of our country, not undermine it for a few headlines or ticket sales,” she added.

As of now, neither Diljit Dosanjh nor the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have responded publicly to Meera Chopra’s remarks. But with growing online chatter and increasing media coverage, the issue is unlikely to die down anytime soon.
