Akshay Kumar’s historical courtroom drama, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, has seen a significant boost in its box office performance, particularly on its second Sunday. On Day 10, the film earned an impressive Rs 8.15 crore domestically, bringing its total earnings to Rs 65.45 crore, according to Sacnilk.
The film, directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, has been drawing attention for its compelling content and strong performances, particularly from Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday. The movie’s Hindi occupancy on April 27 stood at 29.02%. The Morning Shows had a 13.51% occupancy, while the Afternoon Shows saw a rise to 33.98%. The Evening Shows were more favorable with 41.74%, while the Night Shows had a more modest 26.86%. These trends highlight the growing popularity of the film among audiences.
Critic Taran Adarsh also praised the film for its strong content, attributing its box office success to its “powerful narrative.” He highlighted the film’s performance on social media, noting how the second Friday collections were nearly as high as its opening Friday, which had benefited from the Good Friday holiday. Adarsh pointed out the 77.78% growth in the film’s performance on its second Saturday, signaling a positive reception and a strong staying power at the box office.
Kesari 2 is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The film centers around the life of C Sankaran Nair, an influential lawyer, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, who played a pivotal role in the legal battle following the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. The film also stars R Madhavan as Neville McKinley, the British lawyer who goes head-to-head with Nair, and Ananya Panday as Dilreet Gill, India’s first female lawyer, showcasing her versatility in a role quite different from her previous on-screen characters.
