Malayalam actress Vincy recently found herself at the center of controversy after a private issue involving one of her co-stars unexpectedly became public knowledge. The actress, who had approached both the Film Chamber and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) to report inappropriate on-set behavior by a male lead actor during the filming of the upcoming movie Soothravakyam, made it clear that she never intended for the actor’s identity to be revealed. Expressing both concern and disappointment over the breach of confidentiality, Vincy firmly stated that the leak was a serious violation of trust.
In a statement shared with Kerala Kaumudi, Vincy voiced her distress, remarking, “I had specifically requested the concerned authorities not to make the actor’s name public, but somehow this information still found its way to television channels. This is not only disappointing, but it also undermines the entire process. A single individual’s mistake should not result in the entire movie suffering. This was the reason I deliberately avoided disclosing the actor’s identity in the first place.”
She went on to express her appreciation for the solidarity shown by the Malayalam cinema community. “I am genuinely thankful for the backing I’ve received from various film organisations,” she said, while also emphasizing her view that the actor in question should be given room for self-improvement. “I don’t think his entire career should be jeopardized over this. He is a gifted artist, and I believe everyone deserves a chance to correct their actions and grow from them.”
Vincy had previously sparked headlines during a public awareness event for the “Say No to Drugs” campaign when she made a powerful statement against substance abuse within the film industry. Speaking candidly at the event, she remarked, “If I ever learn that someone I’m working with is involved in drug use, I will refuse to act in the same film.” This firm stance, though applauded by many, raised eyebrows and stirred speculation about who the actor might be.
Later, she took to social media to clarify the backstory behind her public remark. Vincy revealed that during the filming of a yet-to-be-released movie, one of her co-stars had reportedly used drugs and behaved inappropriately on set. According to her, the actor even pressured her to adjust her costume during filming, a situation that made her deeply uncomfortable. Despite the discomfort and misconduct she endured, Vincy once again refrained from revealing the actor’s identity, demonstrating her intention to handle the matter professionally rather than sensationalize it.
The issue has now caught the attention of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) as well. Jayan Cherthala, who serves as the convenor of AMMA’s ad hoc committee, publicly assured Vincy that the association would provide her with full support and stand by her throughout the course of the complaint investigation.
